How it all started
I know what it is like to feel frozen in front of an audience. Back in university, I had a fear of public speaking, experiencing a racing heart, sweaty palms, and the fear of embarrassing myself in front of others.
This was a feeling I wanted to get rid of. Speaking is everywhere: social situations, job interviews, the workplace. It wasn’t something I could avoid forever.
That experience stuck with me and became the foundation of everything I do. It taught me that communication is at the heart of every professional skill that matters: public speaking, marketing, leadership, sales, building a business. Learning to speak with confidence didn’t just change how I presented, it changed how I marketed, led teams, and how I built my career.
The Intersection of Public Speaking and Marketing
As a Head of Marketing, I have spent years building marketing strategies that grow businesses, from brand positioning and content marketing to lead generation and sales enablement. What separates good marketing from great marketing is communication. The ability to tell a clear story, hold attention and move people to action. These are public speaking skills applied at scale.
Through my books and content, I help ambitious professionals and entrepreneurs see that public speaking and marketing are not two separate skills. They are how to communicate with impact applied in different contexts. When you learn to communicate with impact you get noticed. And when you get noticed you create opportunities to grow.
What I Learned from Helping People Speak
Before focusing on writing and content, I spent years coaching professionals through their fear of public speaking, from graduate consultants delivering their first presentation to executives speaking at industry conferences. That experience taught me something that shaped everything I now write about: the techniques that make someone a confident speaker are the same techniques that make someone a compelling marketer, a persuasive salesperson, and a trusted leader. Creating the Nano Speech
I developed the Nano Speech framework to make public speaking simple and repeatable. The Nano Speech can be 10 seconds long or 1 hour. I built it as a framework that makes public speaking practice relevant in non-pressure, every day environments. Every speech or presentation is broken into three parts: Open, Body, and Close, but not how you traditionally think about it. By focusing on structure, clarity, and storytelling, my clients communicate their ideas confidently, whether in a social setting, team meeting, or keynote address.
Effortless Public Speaking
In 2022 I became a Best Selling Author, writing Effortless Public Speaking. With real life experiences, both my own, and from coaching clients, the book is full of tools and techniques that will help you speak stress free, with confidence and help you go from afraid to effortless public speaking. This book was designed to be the zero to one of how to get started even if you hate public speaking right now. Most public speaking advice can be unhelpful for beginners because it doesn’t meet people where they are at. I wrote this book with the advice I needed all those years ago in the university lecture theatre when my fear of public speaking left me uncomfortable, overwhelmed, and embarrassed. It is the roadmap to go from stressed to effortless public speaking.
