How to become a great public speaker

Everyone can be a great public speaker (including you).

5 simple techniques to set you apart from the competition, speak stress free, and win over your audience.

I used to have a fear of public speaking.

Using these techniques I overcame the fear and now teach others how to speak stress free.

Lets begin…

1. Slow down.

Most people rush their presentation, speak fast, and use filler words.

Slow down, gather time to think, and get comfortable pausing.

Slowing down makes you a more thoughtful speaker.

It shows you are present to the audience.

It reduces filler words.

2. Be different.

Use the structure: Open, body, close.

They should be different, not different versions of the same content.

Don’t open with a 10 minute agenda, go through the agenda, and then tell the audience what you just told them.

Keep people engaged. Be different.

3. Use the senses.

Always relate it back to something the audience can resonate with.

  • ‘Like the heat of the sun.’

  • ‘Like the smell of cinnamon.’

Using the senses makes it easy for the audience to relate to your topic.

Bring it back to everyday moments.

4. Get close to your audience.

Don’t stand behind a podium.

It puts a physical barrier between you and the audience.

Stand at the edge of the stage, walk through the crowd.

Proximity impacts connection.

Where you can, be closer to your audience.

5. Don’t throw away your close.

Most people end with, ‘That’s everything I had to say.’

Your close is an opportunity to inspire, create action and land your message.

Make it memorable.

Give them something actionable.

Show them the next step.
